My Xiaomi Redmi 9T Android smartphone Greatly Facilitates My Vision Impairment!

My Xiaomi Redmi 9T Android 10 smartphone is now 8.0 weeks old! It was officially released approximately 46.6 weeks ago.

Hello World! My Android lifestyle began seven years before I became totally BLIND. As being an independent Google developer prior to my sight-loss, I quickly consulted with Google I/O developers when I began experiencing intermittent blindness, whom originally introduced me to Google TalkBack screenreader. A couple of years went by, when my trusted Android 7 smartphone would no longer recognize my finger gestures, and then, my favorite Android 9 smartphone (successor) decided to “brick” on me during an OTA factory update. After two months without an Android smartphone, my wife purchased the Xiaomi Redmi 9T for me, adding my recently-purchased 128GB microSD card into it. Since then, it has been working GREAT for me! ☺️

Interestingly, I still have all my electronics engineering tools for repairing Android devices from “bricked” firmware, but unfortunately, I’m now totally BLIND, and eyesight is required for me to do any repair work. I really miss those days of being successful at quickly repairing my digital electronic gadgets.

My wife’s sighted nephew, Josh, was able to understand my English-voiced commands in making my Xiaomi Redmi 9T into an extremely useful & beneficial tool to facilitate my vision impairment, mostly because I taught him most of my geeky computer skills before I became BLIND. He’s presently in 4th year college studies in electrical engineering, which is also a great benefit to me. ☺️

Once the Android Accessibility Suite was installed from the Google Play Store, and Google TalkBack was activated, I began installing my favorite Android apps, in batches. Josh enters all my encrypted passwords for me! ☺️

My BLIND folder has the following apps: Supersense AI, Envision AI, Sullivan+, Legere Reader, Google LookOut, TapTapSee, BeMyEyes, and The Voice for Android. — I also operate these apps with my screen hidden! ☺️

Since I have been a radio scanner listener since 1983, my Scanners folder has the following (purchased) apps: ScannerRadio Pro, Broadcastify Player Pro and LiveATC. — I’ve consulted with the developer of ScannerRadio in making that app accessible with Google TalkBack. ☺️

Next, is my Music folder, containing the following apps: Apple Music, TuneIn Radio Pro, YouTube Music, Spotify, BrainWaves Pro, White Noise Generator and Noise Wall Pro.

In my Science folder, I use these Android apps: ISS Detector Pro and Philippines Weather & Earthquakes.

Since I still enjoy computer programming, the Android apps in my Compilers folder are C/C++ Compiler, BASIC Compiler and Sedona Swift Compiler. ☺️

My Drives folder includes my cloud drives, Amazon Drive, Google Drive, Microsoft OneDrive & DropBox.

The AI-based voice assistants on my Xiaomi Redmi 9T smartphone are the Google Assistant and Amazon Alexa, both concurrently work with my BOSE QuietComfort 35 II headphones. ☺️

And then, of course, I have Netflix installed, allowing me to enjoy content with audio descriptions! ☺️

Thanks to Google BrailleBack, I’m able to type in Computer Braille with my Orbit Writer Braille keyboard. ☺️

My wife purchased this Xiaomi Redmi 9T smartphone for 🇵🇭₱8399 (🇺🇸$167). I opted for this brand & model for it’s low price and it uses the QualComm SnapDragon chipset. (I wanted the Samsung model with the same chipset, but it was 3x more expensive!) The memory configuration of my unit, is 6GB + 128GB internal + 128GB external. — I’ve managed to fill up most of my external microSD card with lossless music (from Apple Music) and videos (from Netflix). ☺️

Thanks for reading my latest blog post! Have a Great Day!
