My Apple iPhone 6S Plus Still Facilitates My Vision Impairment!

My Apple iPhone 6S Plus is now 2.70 years old.
Now running iOS 15.1, freshly updated 44 days ago. My iPhone now has a NEW BATTERY Freshly Installed 67 days ago, capable of holding a charge up to 28 hours in a single battery cycle!

Hello World! Surprisingly, I waited almost 18 months after blindness to purchased my first iPhone as “new”, the 6S Plus, as my disability income prevented me from purchasing a newer model. I was coerced by too many BLIND iPhone users (via Facebook) to make the investment. The 32GB 6S Plus was the oldest model the local Apple authorized reseller had in-stock, still factory-sealed from manufacturer, so I purchased it after “forcing” the store manager to activate the VoiceOver screenreader on the display unit as my requirement before I decide to purchase. Once I figured how to manipulate the VoiceOver screenreader on the display unit, I instructed my wife to purchase the new, factory-sealed in box, requesting the store manager to upgrade the iOS to the latest version, from 11 to 12.2 before I leave the store. While waiting for my wife to finish her grocery shopping, I got to try out Apple Siri for the first time! After leaving the store, my newly-purchased iPhone became ready for my exploration & experimentation! ☺️

My iPhone is not my first Apple product. Though I once performed computer programming on the Apple II & Macintosh computers, I purchased an Apple laptop with System 7.5.5 as a 2nd-hand unit. In 2005, I purchased my first iPod, but quickly outgrew it, convincing me to purchased the 32GB video iPod instead. In 2006, I purchased the Apple iBook G4 laptop computer, in which I self-registered myself as an independent Apple developer on the PowerPC platform, a month before Apple opted for Intel over PowerPC. I also purchased the first generation Apple MacMini with the Intel chipset, but sold it a year later, because it would not run Debian GNU/Linux.

Daily, I use my Apple iPhone 6S Plus with Logitech K480 Bluetooth QWERTY keyboard, mostly because I’m able to completely manipulate it without touching its touchscreen, and I’m much faster! As an alternative, mostly for reduction of arthritis pain, my Orbit Writer Braille keyboard works satisfactorily on it, but I’m not as fast as when I type on a QWERTY keyboard.

My wife’s nephew, Josh, replaced the iPhone battery after spending almost two hours with my wife. The new battery costed under πŸ‡΅πŸ‡β‚±400 (πŸ‡ΊπŸ‡Έ$7.96) via Lazada (commerce site. I did many tweaks to make the battery charge last longer. No, my iOS is NOT “jailbroken”!

Since I’m living off of disability income, my 6S Plus will be my final Apple product, unless someone gives me a newer unit. However, I already accept the fact that my wishes for another Apple product will never happen in the remainder of my lifetime.

Thanks for reading my latest blog post! Have a Great Day!
