Hello World! Though my Xiaomi Redmi 9T smartphone is much better than Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2, one would wonder why I’m still wishing for Envision Glasses. ☺️
Basically, it’s simple! If I didn’t have osteoarthritis in my left hand, I would not be wanting nor wishing for wearable smart-glasses. Sometimes, the osteoarthritis in my right hand causes me to slide while pressing, resulting in an undesired operation, or causes my left hand to lose grip, causing an unexpected drop. Arthritis is what happened to me as I grew older.
The specifications of my Xiaomi Redmi 9T and Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 reveals the major differences between the devices. Envision Glasses uses Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2, as specified on the Envision’s webpage.
Technically, I am using Envision AI from Google Play Store which uses the 48 megapixel quad-camera of my Xiaomi smartphone, compared to the 12 megapixel camera that Envision Glasses uses. Hands down, my Xiaomi smartphone is the winner!
For me to experience the object recognition feature of Envision Glasses that is not included in Envision AI Android app, I use Supersense from Google Play Store. Envision Technologies refuses to add the object recognition feature as to promote the sale of their expensive Envision Glasses product.
For other features of Envision Glasses, such as the Light Detector, I use Sullivan+ from Google Play Store, a totally FREE product for blind persons.
Also to note, is the fact that Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 uses an outdated, open-source Android operating system, version 8.1, codenamed “Oreo”. However, it seems Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 was released sometime in 2019. Since Envision Glasses uses a remote internet server to process scene descriptions, etc, using an older OS makes me wonder!
The Envision Glasses feature I’m interested in, is the Video Calling function. The closest equivalent is, Be My Eyes app, but only allows the calling of strangers. As of this writing, I don’t know if Skype is in Envision Glasses.
As a former, independent Google developer, the Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 would be my second Google product, but I really have no clue if that product will ever reach my hands. (My first Google product is the second-generation video Chromecast.) — When I became totally BLIND, I am unable to resume as an independent Google developer, but still get the news from Google I/O. ☺️
Thanks for reading my latest blog post! Have a Great Day!
