Unsalted, Dry Roasted PEANUTS are Extremely RARE in The Philippines.

Hello World! One of the things in life I miss enjoying from the USA, is Hoody’s Peanuts in blue packaging, which no identical product exists in The Philippines today!

For some unknown reason, when asking a Filipino (in The Philippines) for “dry roasted, unsalted peanuts”, you would either received peanuts boiled in salt water OR peanuts pan-fried in oil & salt. When going to the local grocery store, EVERY commercially-packaged peanuts contains monosodium glutamate (MSG) sometimes hidden as “flavor enhancer”, with contents feeling greasy to the fingers. Sometimes, a package labeled as “greaseless” contains palm oil, or some other oil listed in the ingredients. Only unsalted peanuts can be found in raw form at nearby “wet” markets.

When I was a child in the USA, my Filipino father, whom got me addicted to the blue-labeled Hoody’s peanut package, taught me how to prepare my own dry-roasted, unsalted peanuts, using either the the electric range oven or the portable, toaster oven, known as “oven toaster” in the Philippines; within 20 to 30 minutes, I would have my own creation of dry-roasted, unsalted peanuts in shell, just like the blue-labeled Hoody’s peanuts package. However, as I recall, raw peanuts were often not available in nearly all grocery stores in the USA.

Surprisingly, the great majority of the human population in The Philippines, have hypertension, or “high blood pressure”, yet nearly all food products in the country are “salty” with either salt and/or MSG (known as “betsin”). Luckily, I have a rare health condition of hypotension, or “extremely low blood pressure”, often causes human & machine testers of my blood pressure, to squeeze extremely tight, often because they never had a patient with extremely low blood pressure before.

Every once in a while, SM Supermarket has a red-colored package titled, “Singapore Peanuts”, which are Singapore’s version of Hoody’s red-packaged peanuts in shell, SALTED. The legume seeds are too small, compared to the USA brand.

Lately, as I began consuming vegan food products, my wife found a retail store source that sells the REAL dry roasted peanuts, but either contains a combination of salt, MSG/betsin or some ingredient that makes the peanut seeds feel “silky” to the touch. I already consumed imported Planter’s dry roasted, salted peanuts that were greasy to my fingers.

Now that I’m totally BLIND, I really miss my eyesight, as it seems I’m the only one in The Philippines, that knows how to perfectly-bake peanuts in shell without any other ingredient. My late father taught me how to know the peanuts are fully-roasted by just looking at the color of the shells. Basically, perfect eyesight is required to achieve dry roasted, unsalted peanuts to perfection.

Thanks for reading my latest blog post! Have a Great Day!
