Computer Vision: My iPhone 12 mini vs Envision Glasses vs OrCam MyEye/Read

Hello World! When I realized I will never afford the price-tags of Envision Glasses nor OrCam MyEye nor OrCam Read products, I discovered my recent purchase of my Apple iPhone 12 mini smartphone, became my SOLUTION! ☺️

It’s now approaching 51 months since I last saw something with my eyes. After I lost my eyesight after surviving terrorism, I then encountered numerous profiteers that preferred my disability income while ignoring who I was before I became totally BLIND. It originally began with Cybereyez by Cybertimez, whom completely ignored my past development skills, and demanded payment in full when I had offered to help develop for them. Next came Envision Technologies, whom, to this day, completely ignored my 35 years of my independent developer lifestyle, insisting I pay thousands of dollars for a wearable product with an obsolete operating system with limited features. — This is when my recent purchase of my Apple iPhone 12 mini became the SOLUTION I have been looking for! ☺️

For this blog post, I am referencing the technical specifications of Apple iPhone 12 mini, Google Glass (hardware of Envision Glasses), OrCam MyEye and OrCam Read products.

On my Apple iPhone 12 mini, Supersense app gives most, if not all the features of Envision Glasses minus wearability and without the hefty price-tag. In addition, Envision Glasses’ limited Video Calling feature can be substituted for Be My Eyes and/or AIRA for human-based assistance. Other noteworthy computer vision solutions are Microsoft Seeing AI, Sullivan+ and Voice Dream Scanner.

Though my 135 grams iPhone 12 mini is heavier than the 46 grams Envision Glasses, my iPhone is running the latest iOS 15.3 whereas Envision Glasses is using an obsolete open-source Android 8.1 operating system, originally released in late 2017, yet has a recent security patch, approximately four months ago. — Also to note, Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 does NOT allow the End User to install any Android apps!

From my own research, the price-tag of Google Glass Enterprise Edition 2 is under 🇺🇸$995 whereas Apple iPhone 12 mini costs under 🇺🇸$800. I don’t know how Envision Technologies adds $2000 to $3000 to call it “Envision Glasses”, possibly, for the intention of producing a “knock-off” OrCam product. Whereas I had eyesight to witness how OrCam built their products from the ground-up, Envision took a “shortcut” when they chose a Google Glass product with the limitation of 32 gigabytes of storage memory. There may be some rivalry between Israeli-based OrCam and Dutch-based Envision. ☺️

Prior to my purchase of my iPhone 12 mini, I gave Envision Technologies and their Philippine-based distributor, Pacific Vision International, one last CHANCE to give me a great deal with installment plan, and 🇺🇸$3334 money-up-front was their best offer! In addition, Natalia from Envision Support called my request a “give-away”, when I offered to use my developer skills to make Envision Glasses much better. — Both companies rejected my interest, causing me to purchase my iPhone 12 mini on an installment plan of 12 months! ☺️

Nowadays, since my iPhone 12 mini purchase, I’m continuously monitoring how Envision Technologies continue looking for “suckers” of their very-expensive Envision Glasses product. One of the cofounders of that company is a blind Iranian national with wife & family still in Iran, a country on the USA watchlist; I’m not sure if this is the same person hosting their Envision podcast, whom does not speak clear English, like in Clubhouse Envisioners room. Too many persons in first-world countries received their pair of Envision Glasses for FREE, many of which are still selling, or have already sold their pair, because they needed the money. — Because how I was treated by Envision Support since I became an Android beta tester in May 2019, it seems the company remains in “damage control”.

Thanks for reading my latest blog post! Have a Great Day!
