Computer Vision: The vOICe on My Xiaomi Redmi 9T Android Smartphone for Augmented Reality Experience

Hello World! Thanks to a recent Twitter follower, I’ve rediscovered another computer vision tool that correlates with my acoustics skill, somewhat! ☺️

Though I already had The vOICe already installed on my Xiaomi Redmi 9T Android smartphone, I just did not know how to use it, until NOW, despite it’s been in my Google Play Store library shortly after I became totally BLIND. ☺️

My Xiaomi Redmi 9T smartphone is now 22.4 weeks old! It was announced 62.0 weeks ago and officially released 60.6 weeks ago. It’s now running MIUI 12.5.8.0, updated 31 days ago. It’s using Android version 11 RKQ1.201004.002. It’s chipset is the Qualcomm SM6115 Snapdragon 662 (11 nm) CPU.

Despite my blindness, I’m still gifted with supersensitive binaural hearing, which currently has a frequency range from 27Hz to 14250Hz. As a surprise to many, though I had to wear noise-cancelling hearing protectors all the time when I was noise tortured by bad neighbors (aka “terrorists”) for four consecutive years, I became totally BLIND as a stress-related disability, within 60 days of my emergency extraction from that bad neighborhood. Since I was noise tortured, it took me almost four years to understand the concept behind The vOICe. — I believe neuroscientists will have more of an understanding on this matter.

Recently, my purchase of my BOSE QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones became a REQUIREMENT because, after hearing excessively LOUD animal noise pollution for two consecutive years, I began having anxiety or panic attacks.

My 19.57 week old BOSE QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones was assembled in Thailand 1.26 years ago, yet was officially released approximately 4.50 years ago, 12.85 weeks before I became completely BLIND. It’s limited warranty expires in 32.57 weeks from now.

Prior to composing this blog post, intermittent, LOUD animal noise pollution was in progress prior to testing The vOICe Android app, forcing me to wear my BOSE QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones with Bose’s world-class acoustic noise-cancelling technology set as maximum. — With animal noise pollution eliminated in my BOSE QuietComfort 35 Series II headphones, I began to understand the basic concept of what The vOICe is telling me, as I point my Android camera around my bedroom. ☺️

After reviewing several pages of The vOICe website, and the Twitter tweets/retweets of The vOICe Twitter feed, I had discovered a missing element, The vOICe is not suitable for survivors of noise torture (terrorism), as many of the sounds produced in The vOICe may trigger some form of stress or anxiety. Also, there is no mention of requiring noise-cancelling technology in stereo headphones, in which exterior, environmental noises can be a noticeable distraction when attempting to concentrate on The vOICe stereophonic sounds. For example, as in my case, I lose concentration whenever I hear my disrespectful neighbor’s NEGLECTED pet dog bark, often LOUDER than the speech from my talking screenreader. — This morning’s experiment with The vOICe was only successful with noise-cancelling stereo headphones.

In addition to the augmented reality function of The vOICe, I was amazed at how accurate the text detection & color detection, especially when I toggled-off Google TalkBack screenreader. ☺️

As of this writing, since I live in The Philippines, I’m having my wife’s nephew locate where to purchase Huawei Vision 800 smart-glasses. I do remember there is is a Huawei retail store in a nearby shopping mall. Here, in The Philippines, China-made products are often readily available. ☺️

Update (March 20, 2022): My wife’s nephew, Josh, was unable to locate where to purchase the Huawei Vision 800 smartglasses in The Philippines! Based on my research, the Philippines Bureau of Customs (BoC) charges 2x to 3x in taxes/fees on the importation of wearable computing technology, as such technology can be used for entertainment purposes.

Thanks for reading my latest blog post about my computer vision projects, and my first blog post about The vOICe! Have a Great Day!
